Thought for the coming week…

Let us place all fear behind us:

++Love yourself for who you are

++Be your own judge as other’s perception does not define you

++Let others know how important they are to you

++Lose the fear of using Paypal

++Don’t be shy about stating your opinion on ALMAA’s Blog

Ok, it has been two weeks since my last entry so I am clearly aspiring to be a weekly blogger.

I want to thank everyone who has spent time visiting the site in the last few days. The initial suggestions, comments, and words of encouragement are welcome affirmations when embarking on a project of this magnitude.

This website and blog are “shout outs” to the planet about sexual violence awareness and prevention. I am certain that many of you out there have an opinion so don’t be shy–jump in and comment. Do it on this blog or on ALMAA’s Facebook page. Again, open dialog is the only way we can proactively and productively address the issue of sexual violence. -ED

Welcome to ALMAA’s first blog. It will provide weekly insights and updates on current events and topics that are pertinent to furthering ALMAA’s mission statement. We hope it will give you the incentive to contribute, share, and the ability to stand up and SHOUT, “Not on my watch.”

AWARE-let’s take a brief look at the various meaning of this word.

Exerpts from the electronic version of Merrriam Webster’s Dictionary:

Main Entry: aware
Pronunciation: \a-wer\
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English iwar, from Old English gewær, from ge- (associative prefix) + wær wary — more at co-, wary
Date: before 12th century
1 {archaic} : watchful, wary
2 : having or showing realization, perception, or knowledge
— aware·ness noun
synonyms Aware, Cognizant, Conscious, Awake mean having knowledge of something

AWARE implies vigilance in observing or alertness in drawing inferences from what one experiences

COGNIZANT implies having special or certain knowledge as from firsthand sources

CONSCIOUS implies that one is focusing one’s attention on something or is even preoccupied by it

AWAKE implies that one has become alive to something and is on the alert

Choose which version you like. This website hopes to create awareness about sexual violence. If we are successful, all visitors will leave willing to embrace ALMAA’s mission and bring about awareness.

It happens too often; it happens to many people; we are here to attempt to reverse the cycle. We welcome your feedback as you are integral in making a difference in your family, your school, your neighborhood, your community, and your country. We hope that you are compelled to stand up and make a positive difference where you can. Tell ALMAA how you feel about awareness and the difference that this effort can make for future generations. ED
